Self Guided Learning in San Rafael - CPR BLS, ACLS, and PALS Courses

Healthcare professionals in San Rafael have a faster, more flexible way to complete American Heart Association® BLS, ACLS, and PALS training. Safety Training Seminars, located at 4340 Redwood Hwy, Suite F-154, now offers Self-Guided Learning™ courses that combine self-paced online learning with an independent skills session—no fixed class times, no group schedules.

For nurses, paramedics, and physicians working near Kaiser Permanente San Rafael Medical Center or MarinHealth Medical Center in Greenbrae, that kind of flexibility matters. Shifts change. Schedules fill up. Self-Guided Learning courses fit around your life, not the other way around.

Self-Guided Learning in San Rafael

What Is Self-Guided Learning?

Self-Guided Learning™ is an American Heart Association-approved training approach. It pairs online cognitive learning with a self-guided skills session completed at a CPR Verification Station™ learning center. Learners complete every component independently and, upon successful completion, receive an American Heart Association Course Completion eCard.

This differs from traditional blended or instructor-led classroom learning. There is no instructor present during the skills session. Instead, the CPR Verification Station learning center delivers real-time, objective performance feedback as you work through required psychomotor skills—compressions, ventilations, and two-rescuer CPR.

The specific course available for BLS, ACLS, and PALS through this format is HeartCode® Complete.*

How the Course Works

The Self-Guided Learning course pathway follows three clear steps:

Step 1: Complete online learning at your own pace
Log in from any compatible device—laptop, desktop, or tablet—and work through the cognitive portion independently. The online learning activity uses True Adaptive™ learning powered by Area9 Lyceum, which adjusts content based on your existing knowledge and confidence level. If you already understand a concept, the course moves on. Where gaps exist, it focuses your time there. Most learners finish the online portion in one to three hours.

Step 2: Complete the self-guided skills session
Head to the Safety Training Seminars office on Redwood Hwy—just minutes from the historic Mission San Rafael Arcángel and easy to reach from Highway 101—and complete your hands-on skills session at the CPR Verification Station learning center. The station measures your CPR performance against AHA-defined criteria and gives you real-time, audiovisual feedback. You can repeat practice as needed until you achieve a passing score.

Step 3: Receive your American Heart Association Course Completion eCard
Once you successfully complete both components, you receive your American Heart Association Course Completion eCard the same day. No waiting. No delays.

Who Should Take These Courses?

Self-Guided Learning courses suit healthcare professionals who need American Heart Association BLS, ACLS, or PALS Provider eCards but cannot commit to a fixed class schedule. That includes:

  • Nurses and physicians at MarinHealth Medical Center or Kaiser Permanente San Rafael Medical Center
  • EMTs, paramedics, and prehospital service providers
  • Medical and nursing students completing clinical rotations
  • Allied health providers seeking initial or renewal course completion

If you work unpredictable shifts or simply prefer self-paced, independent training, this approach delivers the same AHA course completion outcome as classroom-based options—without the scheduling constraints.
